John Lennon in Studio 2, Abbey Road, March 30th 1967 - 'Console' - 35x24"

John Lennon sits alone at the mixing desk of the famed Studio 2 in Abbey Road. According to Herrmann he was the only one who spoke to him, trying to put him at his ease by saying "alright mate". Herrmann was sent to Abbey Road ostensibly to do a piece on the mechanics of recording. He was sent on Thursday March 30th at around 12.30 ( we know this as there is a clock on the wall in the photo of John, Ringo and George - see contact sheet image No 15, which says 12.45pm ). Only one photo appeared in the Sunday Times of 2nd April 1967, in the Spectrum column with a small piece about how money was forcing producers to go independent and move away from the giant publishers in an effort to assert creative and financial freedom. March 30th 1967 turned out to be a historic day in the Beatles calendar as following the recording session photographed here by Herrmann, they made their way to Michael Cooper's Flood Street studio to be photographed for one of the most famous album covers of all time, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
